Most issues of The Wild Goose feature one of the saints of Celtic lands. The use of the word "saint" in Celtic Christian practice is more in line with the New Testament understanding than contemporary usage. A saint in this sense was one who had given their life over to the service of the Lord Jesus, the great High King. Aidan is not only a saint in terms of being a Christian hero, he was known as a saint in his own generation as were many of his contemporaries. A saint is, in the New Testament, a person belonging to God, therefore holy (separated for God's use).

These saints, in all their humanness and divine passion, are folks just like us. By learning of their lives, we see models of who we can become.

The year and date given for each saint is that of their death. This follows an ancient Christian practice which understood the day of a Christian's physical death as their 'birthday' into the fullness of heaven.  Click on a saint's name in the list below to read about the saint's life.
